KIMONO Translated literally from Japanese, the word kimono (kee-mo-no) means “thing to wear.” Historically, it could be used to refer to any type of clothing, but when Japan opened to trade with the west, the word kimono came to refer to a very specific group of traditional Japanese garments. This year, our theme is “fantasy”, so we’ve prepared a number of fanciful examples of kitsuke (kit-soo-keh) for your viewing pleasure; kitsuke being the “art of wearing kimono.” Many of these outfits are based on Japanese and Western mythology, while others represent creative themes and manners of wearing kimono.
